Travertine belongs to a larger family of stone called limestone. Marble is also a type of limestone that has had additional heat and pressure applied to it by the earth's crust. Travertine is formed by minerals dissolving in ground water and then being deposited on the earth's surface by rivers, natural springs, or geysers.

The beautiful colors that travertine comes in result from iron compounds found in the earth's surface.

Travertine can be finished in four different ways. Polished travertine is very shiny.... and very slippery when it is wet. It can also be matte finished or brushed or tumbled. The brushed or tumbled have more texture.

Travertine can be treated to make it have a greater slip resistance. To treat Travertine Tile you will use the Ceramic Tile Floor Safety Treatment.

Complete instructions will be included in the package. One gallon of floor treatment will treat approximately 350 square feet. It sells for $99.00 per gallon. (If you need more than 3 gallons the price is $89.00 per gallon)
