Polished Granite Floors Become Very Slippery When Wet

Polished granite floors can be very slippery when wet. However, flecks of quartz, feldspar and mica give granite its own special character. It truly is rich and adds beauty to any floor surface.
Tile installers do not recommend putting polished granite in bathrooms because it can become very slippery. But,the beauty of it is hard to resist. It can be treated to make it more slip resistant so it can be safe and beautiful at the same time.
The problem with polished surface floors is that once you start to slide you just can't stop.

What our process does is to make the static coefficient of friction and the dynamic coefficient of friction the same. This will make it so that if you do start to slip, you will have the opportunity to recover.
We recently treated 12,000 square feet of granite floor at Raymond James Stadium. (The home of the Tampa Bay Bucaneers.) These granite floors were indoors. If they had been outside they indeed would have been a hazard!! They realized that they had a problem with slippery granite and wanted to take care of it before they had a slip and fall.
