In recent years fake slip and fall claims have been on the rise. These false slip and fall claims cost all of us money. What happens is that stores quickly settle these claims so that they can avoid paying high attorney fees for litigation. In doing this the cost of business goes up. The cost of products go up for the consumer. The cost of insurance goes up as well when there are slip and fall claims and this cost is passed on to the customers as well.
It would be much better for all of us if these fake slip and fall accidents were investigated and the people who make the false claims were punished. Third-degree fraud crimes carry with them a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of $15,000, while fourth degree crimes carry a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison and a fine of $10,000.
These false claims are usually the work of two people who are out to make a living by reporting a false claim for a slip and fall accident. They will pick a spot in a parking lot or a store where there is not any one around. Then they will pour a small amount of liquid onto the surface. One will pretend to fall and the other will report the accident.

Of course the surveillance cameras are the best protection but this still costs money, time and effort on the part of store owners. The costs are passed right along to us...the customers.
